Duties

  • You will serve as a command lead for improving Force Operational Safety to include human performance in a team setting and integrating human and team performance factors into a predictive analysis approach for operational risk.
  • You will advise on improving human factors in system and training integration.
  • You will analyze human systems interface (HSI) and provide programmatic enhancement and recommendations for host application software and hardware systems.
  • You will identify and mitigate potential mishap precursors before the mishap event and simultaneously develop measures and analysis that mitigate the severity of mishap events.
  • You will determine gaps and shortfalls with safety operations and human performance measures/methods.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Travel to ships and shipyards may be required.
  • Occasional duties may involve long hours of sitting, walking up and down ladders, and long periods of standing.
  • This position may require some infrequent exposure to hazards when visiting industrial worksites.


Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements (see Education), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Applying a wide range of techniques, concepts and fundamental principles from psychology to human and organizational performance, training, engineering, and human/system integration.
  • Utilizing practical knowledge of operating systems or training requirements to establish guidelines and optimize human system interfaces.
  • Preparing reports or presentations to summarize results and conclusions of human systems integration and human factors assessments.
  • Conducting interviews or surveys of users, watch standers or customers on topics such as requirements, needs, fatigue, ergonomics or interfaces.
  • Applying modeling and quantitative analysis to forecast events, such as human decisions, behaviors, structure, processes of organizations, and the attitudes/actions of human groups.
  • Using analytical software such as SAS, R, and SPS to analyze statistical data for modeling and forecasting future events such as human decisions or processes of organizations.

Education

In addition to the required Specialized Experience, applicants must meet the following Basic Educational Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Degree: Major or equivalent in Psychology (Transcripts must be provided.)

PhD level education in Organizational/Industrial Psychology, Human Factors Engineering or closely related disciplines such as Human Systems Integration or Systems Engineering emphasizing mental workload, decision making, skilled performance, human reliability, training, organizational structures/policies/processes, communication, crew resource management is highly desired.
