Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • High school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED).

Experience
  • INDUSTRIAL CONTROL TECHNICIAN AA - #5701
    • Six (6) years of experience as a production electronic, electrical or electro-mechanic Technician or one (1) year having performed satisfactorily the duties of the Industrial Control Technician A

Certification/Licensure
  • Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia motor vehicle operator's license issued from jurisdiction of residence.

Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

Job Summary

The Industrial Control Technician performs technical, industrial, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment operation and maintenance work. The employee is responsible for the installation, operation, repair, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electric, pneumatic, electro-mechanical and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) that control industrial machinery such as tunnel ventilation fans, station cooling fans, vehicle lifts, train washes, bus washes, drainage pumping stations throughout the Authority's rail and bus facilities.

Job Levels : At each successive grade level of this job (i.e. Grades D, C, B, A and AA), the incumbent is expected to demonstrate increased, distinguishing levels of proficiency and efficiency in knowledge, skills and abilities when performing the assigned duties and essential functions described in this job description

"AA Lead" Level: In addition to independently performing the most complex aspects of the duties and essential functions described, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring work responsibilities of a group or team are properly completed in a timely manner and acts in the absence of the supervisor as required.

Essential Functions
  • Maintains electrical and electro-mechanical equipment, PLCs and relay controlled systems.
  • Performs repairs, inspections, required adjustments, testing, troubleshooting, and cleaning, of assigned physical equipment. Observes and operates equipment and systems to troubleshoot malfunctioning electrical or electronic equipment.
  • Reads meters and gauges to determine optimum equipment operation and efficiency. Inspects used parts and equipment for changes in calibration, dimensional requirements, and manufacturer's specifications. Tests and calibrates system controls and equipment to ensure proper system functioning. Executes operations by using test equipment or precision measuring instruments.
  • Analyzes technical data, designs, or preliminary specifications such as blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, work orders, instructions, formulas, etc. Confers with engineering, technical, or mechanical personnel. Performs work in accordance with schematics, wiring and flow diagrams, standard operating procedures, operation manuals, manufacturer's specifications, engineering modification instructions, and local and federal standards.
  • Operates precision measuring equipment such as multimeters, amprobe, and other instruments and tools to test defective control circuits. Tests and maintains flow meters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, pneumatic controls, and temperature transducers. Operates special shop equipment (drills, grinders, fork trucks, hoists, cranes, de-greasers) and uses various hand tools.
  • Maintains physical plant systems, and performs maintenance inspections and tests; replaces, or repairs defective or worn electrical and electronic control devices, and adjusts or calibrates equipment to manufacturer's specifications using approved procedures and test equipment.
  • Maintains physical plant equipment controls (temperature, pressure, electronic, solid state and pneumatic devices). Fabricates assembles, or disassembles manufactured control systems by hand. Installs electrical fixtures or components, electronic equipment, or systems, electronic power, communication, control, or security equipment. Connects electrical equipment to power circuits. Instructs internal customers regarding product installation, use, or repair.
  • Implements directed engineering modifications to physical plant equipment and systems. Performs new plant and component acceptance testing.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those individuals and organizations with whom they interact. Responds effectively and in a timely manner to inquiries made by other Authority departments.
  • Attends and passes the required safety training classes and continuously learns industry best practices for working safely and efficiently. Performs assignments according to established safety practices and maintenance guidelines.

Other Functions
  • Supports response efforts in emergencies by providing immediate maintenance support to protect assets. Responds to and assists during severe weather emergencies.
