Assistant Director, Student AccountsThe George Mason University, Fiscal Services Department, invites applications for an Assistant Director in our Office of Student Accounts. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Compliance and Financial Controls:Responsible for financial controls in student accounts processing, including refunds, exemptions, account adjustments, cashiering, bank deposits, Perkins, and collections. Enforces CAPP Manual and Virginia Code requirements in regard to past due receivables. Ensures student accounts and Perkins Loan Program is maintained in accordance with Department of Education Title IV regulatory requirements.Leadership and Customer Service:Oversees the daily operations of Student Accounts and Cashiering and ALM Office. Recruits, trains and provides guidance and direction to employees. Manages the workflow and delegates tasks as necessary. Ensure expectations are published and communicated. Manages the student appeal process. Assists the Customer Service Manager with staff performance as necessary.Student Experience/Collaboration:Serves as the liaison for the office with other student service and enrollment management offices, including the Offices of the Registrar and Student Financial Aid, Admissions, Enrollment Central, Residence Life, Meal Plan Office, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, SSAC, and Military Services. Serves as the primary point of contact and fiscal expert for academic units on questions and processes relating to the student experience, University Catalog policies and financial policies and procedures, and Cash Handling and Virginia regulatory financial policies and procedures.Catalog/Web/Procedures:Responsible for updating the University Catalog, online semester deadlines and payment information, outgoing email messages, and other Student Accounts Office procedure documents.Other Duties:Serves as contract administrator for various contracts and responsible for staff conducting department POS and purchasing. Responsible for system analysis, training, and other projects as assigned.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent combination of education and experience;Extensive customer service experience (7 years preferred);Knowledge of Title IV compliance as it pertains to student accounts processing and Perkins Loan program;Knowledge of collection laws and the ability to develop strong collection strategies;Ability to maintain timely response rates during peak processing, from both in-person and online students;Considerable supervisory experience (generally three (3)+ years);Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to large groups of students and parents, and manage difficult conversations with debtors;Advanced understanding of financial controls, risk management, accounting systems, and reconciliations.Preferred Qualifications:Student Privacy Law expertise, including FERPA;Experience in Higher Education setting;Knowledge of eVA and Virginia Purchasing requirements.
