The course uses the concept of culture as a basis for discussing differences in Americans' experience of family life, work, education, the arts, national and ethnic identities, gender, religion, and more. Through ethnographic readings, literature, film, and field projects, students develop a better understanding of similarities and differences across the American experience. Offered by INTO Mason.Mason Core: Global UnderstandingRecommended Prerequisite: Multilingual students who have limited experience with US Cultures; INTO Mason Standard Year One Students.INYO 504: Accelerated Graduate Transitions for International Students. 3 credits.Designed specifically for international students at INTO Mason who are enrolled in the Graduate International Pathway, this course emphasizes academic adjustments to study in the U.S., engagement with university resources and policies, and communicating academic progress and career goals through digital portfolios. Note: This course is for graduate students whose highest degree is from a non-US institution. Offered by INTO Mason. May not be repeated for credit.Commitment:The position requires 9 hours per week per 3 credit course assigned, employment beginning August 9, 2022 (non-negotiable). The position is for Fall 2022 with an opportunity for renewal in future terms.Supervision:The position will be supervised by the Associate Academic Director for Faculty Affairs and Strategic Initiatives.Required Qualifications:M.A. in Cultural Studies, Humanities or related field;Two years college-level teaching; andOne year teaching American Cultures course or similar course(s).Preferred Qualifications:Experience teaching multilingual learners;Experience teaching international students or in an international context;Experience teaching online courses;Evidence of professional development related to American cultures or university transition courses; andPh.D. in Cultural Studies, Humanities, or related field.
