POSITION PURPOSE Under the guidance of the R Lab Manager or Support Team Supervisor, this fully qualified journey-level technician is responsible for performing the full range of technical SCADA hardware and software support, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the necessity and importance of these systems to support Lab Testing operations. The SCADA Technician performs a wide variety of skilled duties in the programming and technical support of software associated with Data Acquisition Systems to support performance evaluation of evaporative cooling products and their components. Additionally, the SCADA Technician will maintain various process control systems used to support the condenser test facility and other lab test equipment. Works in a team environment to support the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the R & D Lab including the test facility, equipment, tools, and instrumentation. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred Two years of experience in the programming of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical devices and control systems preferred Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques in the design and operation of DAQ systems, controllers, and devices. Demonstrated ability to program software in various languages including but not limited to VBA, PLC ladder logic, RSLogix, and Lab View. Experience in working with, developing, & troubleshooting data acquisition hardware and software. Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a group Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and data collection applications Self-direction and the ability to work independently NATURE & SCOPE Participates in BAC's technology and product development processes through observation, study, and testing of heat transfer and thermal storage products Reports to the R Lab Manager and Team Supervisor; Interfaces with multiple functional disciplines including engineering, quality, manufacturing, supply chain management, and marketing PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Develop, Install and maintain programs associated with data acquisition systems for test fixtures from both written and verbal instructions Documents programming source code, and testing and upgrade work performed; develops technical documentation for user support; organizes and stores all documentation on system servers. Troubleshoots and resolves SCADA programming problems and writes programs for new or enhanced SCADA functions; assists in troubleshooting system wide issues by tracing failed function from source to destination. Writes programs for new SCADA functions Makes routine software changes. Programs and configures DAQ systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and proportional Integral Derivative Controllers (PID). Develop and install new programs, screens, and interfaces for system upgrade and/or expansions. Instrument evaporative heat transfer equipment for thermal, sound and vibration testing Install and monitor sensors and various measurement devices associated with product tests Assist in the development of test plans and specifications Supporting technology investigation and product development projects Assisting with the preventive maintenance and upkeep of the R Laboratory facilities and equipment Performs preventative maintenance using current technology including software-based diagnostic systems. Sets project priorities and reviews completed work as needed to ensure work is completed in a timely manner and to standards. Develop and maintain a focused mindset of continuous improvement in daily tasking and processes assigned; Identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement. WORKING CONDITIONS This role is for first shift. Up to 10% of the time this person may be asked to work a 2nd or 3rd shift to help accelerate project completion times. Working conditions include inside a lab area and occasionally outside exposed to weather. Ability to work on ladders and lifts is required. This position requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. to shoulder height.
