Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships & Development Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director and CEO, this position is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the design, development, and execution of comprehensive fundraising and revenue-generating programs. This role requires a dynamic fundraising professional who can effectively influence and promote support and engagement for international education. Working in partnership with NAFSA senior leadership, and leading an experienced team managing organizational advancement, conference exhibition, and sponsorship activities, the Senior Director develops strategies to identify opportunities for greater engagement through external partnerships at the regional, national, and international level. Major Functions and Responsibilities: Direct the design and execution of an effective strategic fundraising program. (20%) Develop and implement targeted strategies to increase donor engagement through assessing opportunities, strategic and tactical planning, and cultivating relationships with current and prospective funders. Cultivate partnerships with foundations committed to supporting thought leadership in higher education or international cooperation, and corporations interested in reaching an internationally-minded audience. Partner with NAFSA leadership to develop and implement strategies for engaging and securing new foundation and corporate relationships that are aligned with strategic priorities. Create innovative opportunities for collaboration through partnerships with entities outside of the field of international education that add value through shared commitment to NAFSA"s mission and values. Direct a team of strategic revenue partners to ensure collaboration and consolidate organizational revenue-generating endeavors. (20%) Leads strategic revenue partners in organizational advancement, conference exhibits sales, sponsorship, and grant development activities to maximize revenue opportunities. Evaluate existing partnerships and external relationships to expand opportunities for collaboration with external individuals and organizations to support strategic objectives. Oversee development of marketing and promotion materials for funders to ensure clear and consistent messaging with external audiences and key stakeholders. In collaboration with senior leadership, provide guidance on pricing and packaging of exhibits, sponsorships, and Global Partner services and benefits. Collaborate with the CEO to manage and facilitate development activity with donors and prospects. (15%) Advise and support the Executive Director & CEO and senior leadership on identifying and securing major funding and partnership opportunities. Identify individual prospects and assist in fulfillment of contributions from individual contributors. Manage relationships with key corporate and foundation partners to cultivate opportunities to support organizational initiatives and activities. Under the direction of the Executive Director & CEO, provides support to NAFSA Board members to promote opportunities for engagement with external partners committed to supporting and advancing international education initiatives. Oversee the development and maintenance of sustainable engagement activities with individuals, corporations, and foundations. (15%) Direct research, identification, solicitation, and stewardship of relationships with corporations and foundations to successfully establish annual contributions, grants, program sponsorships, and in-kind donations. Conduct detailed research to identify donor prospects; develop annual fundraising program projections and monitor and report progress against goals. Direct and develop new opportunities for partnerships and giving to support strategic programs and priorities through an understanding of NAFSA"s unique and comprehensive role in the field of international education. Establish and manage a portfolio of strong relationships with corporations, foundations, and similar organizations. (10%) Develop and manage relationships with major foundation and corporate donor prospects; identify strategies to increase engagement opportunities through strategic relationship building. Formulate multiple timetables for engagement with numerous prospects, including establishing short-term and long-term revenue goals. Establish a centralized database for tracking and managing all fundraising and partnership activities to ensure consolidation and coordination of institutional fundraising efforts. Oversee development of grant and funding proposals and work collaboratively with other staff to meet application and reporting deadlines for donors. (10%) Develop compelling proposals, reports, and other supporting material for prospective corporate or foundation funders. Collaborate with senior leadership and other internal stakeholders to develop strategies and gather other required information. Manage grant and funding proposal activities; in collaboration with senior leadership, lead work to ensure deliverables meet application and reporting deadlines. Maintain knowledge of corporate and foundation giving interests and trends. (5%) Develop a strong understanding of NAFSA programs, products, and services to identify and pursue new funding models to advance our work. Work with senior leadership to ensure fundraising goals are aligned with strategic initiatives and appropriate external partners are identified. Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals. (5%) Required Education and Experience: Bachelor"s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum ten (10) years of direct experience fundraising through individual, corporation, and foundation donations Experience working with non-profit or educational organizations Demonstrated success cultivating and maintaining multiple donors, including corporate and foundation relationships, and successfully converting prospects to donors Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong research, analytical, and database skills Experience with grant writing and proposal development Commitment to NAFSA"s mission and support for diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and well-being for all Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to manage multiple projects with different objectives and different timelines. Experience with database management and customer relations databases and use of data analytics to measure success Proven experience meeting or exceeding short-term and long-term revenue goals Ability to interact with and brief the board of directors Extensive experience engaging high level institutional contacts to support fundraising and development efforts Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree welcomed Previous experience with NAFSA, international education, or other association membership organizations Experience working with higher education institutions Experience managing a collaborative team of sales, fundraising, or development professionals Ability to speak a language other than English highly desirable Scope of Supervision The position has supervisory responsibility for professional staff. Work Relationships As representatives of a membership organization with a broad and diverse range of activities related to education and training, NAFSA staff possess more than simply specialized capabilities. Each individual is expected to take the initiative to become knowledgeable about the organization as a whole. Association members and other staff expect colleagues to be accessible and responsive, to convey a positive attitude, and to exhibit a high degree of professionalism. The workday is generally 9:00 am to 5:00 pm The week after Memorial Day to Labor Day, it is 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday. Travel is required occasionally related to job responsibilities, especially for the annual conference, regional meetings, and other leadership meetings. Participation in the NAFSA annual conference the week of Memorial Day, including the holiday itself, is a job requirement. The annual conference is held in varying cities.
