Marcum's Managed Accounting Services (MAS) Department is actively seeking a mission driven, client-facing Manager to join our growing team in our Washington, DC. MAS supports the accounting function for a variety of diverse clients, primarily in the nonprofit sector. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Manager from the public accounting industry or a tenured Assistant Controller from the private sector who is looking for challenging, highly rewarding work. The ideal candidate has demonstrated expertise in managing multiple engagement teams for clients with complex accounting needs, has demonstrated executive presence, business development experience and has a continued focus on growth and development. Job SummaryThe MAS Manager oversees multiple engagement teams that serve as the Accounting Department for a variety of clients. The Manager is the liaison between the partner, the client and the staff, and is responsible for all phases of an engagement. The Managed Accounting Services Manager should view the role as a partner-in-training in terms of performance goals and ideally should be involved in virtually all areas for which partners are responsible. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesA' .Manage the engagement team and the overall engagement for each assigned clientA' .Manage annual budgeting process, strategic planning, and provides other consulting support in related areas such as HR, IT, etc.A' .Build a thorough understanding and deep knowledge of each client's operationsA' .Developed expertise in complex accounting functions and guidance; develop expertise in certain areas of client's/firm's businessA' .Prepare/review the client billing history, engagement letters, and planning for approval by a partner Train and supervise senior and staff accountants to ensure that objectives are accomplished effectively and efficiently, and assist in completing these objectives when necessary A' .Review workpapers and financial statements to ensure all are prepared to Marcum and client standardsA' .Follow and maintain work progress during the engagement in relation to budgeted time and scheduled dates of completionA' .Keep the partner informed of all important developments involving the client and staff, and present any major problems that occur, with all the facts, his or her conclusions, and recommendationsA' .Analyze job overruns and present possible additional billing to the partner for approval as well as discuss the additional billing with the clientA' .Provide recommendations to clients as opportunities arise for additional Marcum services and support other business development functions for the department and organizationA' .Oversee annual external audit and annual budgeting processA' .Other functions may include private and federal grant reporting and budget drafting and modification, assisting with the transition and implementation to different accounting software or other third party providers Supervisory Responsibilities Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of senior and staff accountantsA' .Responsible for interviewing new staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and facilitating the resolution of problemsA' .Involved in other department-wise training and management, to include involvement on the training or onboarding committee, and other department leadership and supervisory roles Minimum Qualifications (Education, experience, certifications)Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other related educationCertified Public Accountant, Master of Accountancy or Master of Business Administration6+ years of Accounting experience in public accounting or at a non-profit organization3+ years of experience supervising accounting professionals Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applicationsProficient with various accounting software programs including but not limited to: QuickBooks, Intacct, Solomon and Great Plains
