Matching 401k and stock options are also included.The Unix Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the operations status of Unix systems and will work closely with other members of the Information Technology Team (Network, Software Development, Help Desk) within Cogent. The individual will perform administration and maintenance for hardware and software that manages content and deployments for a global IT environment. Additionally, the candidate will assist with installation and support of Cogent's Managed Services product (Utility Computing).Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Perform the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems running Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu.Analyze and optimize system operation and resource utilization; perform system capacity analysis and planning.Execute the daily activities of System Administration for the various web development and deployment systems supporting Cogent and Cogent customers.Implementation of security processes and procedures to protect network and operating systems from vulnerabilities.Provide assistance to users in accessing and using Cogent systems, including Cogent's Utility Computing customer base.Install hardware (servers, disk drives, RAM, etc.) and coordinate with Field Engineers performing non-local installs. Under general supervision, performs software installations, security updates, and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.Support 24/7 operations including periodic on-call rotation.Maintains systems in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels.Ensures server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.Conducts hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.Implements and promotes standard operating procedures.Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (shell scripting, Perl, PHP, etc.)Qualifications:Computer Science or related bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant IT experienceExperience installing and maintaining Dell HardwareRed Hat/CentOS 6, 7, 8Experience with Apache HTTP, MySQL, and PHPAutomation tools such as AnsibleExperience with monitoring packages such as Nagios, Icinga, or XymonKnowledge to design and maintain Unix/Linux core services Project Management skills to build and manage projects directly Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (bash, perl, python)Outstanding customer service and time management skillsAssist with the management of vendor relationships and negotiationsStrong interpersonal, communication and organizational skillsCapable of writing and presenting detailed documentationPhysical Requirements:Frequently remains in a sitting/stationary position during the work dayOperates a computer and performs desk-based computer tasks continually; frequently viewing a computer screenRegularly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects and/or equipment that weighs up to 50 poundsTo apply for the position, please submit your resume to This email address is being protected from spambots.
