Full Time

  • Serves as an organizational expert over all facets of military personnel management programs for a Major Subordinate Command (MSC) to include:
  • Military Personnel Distribution and Assignment, tracking and management of military personnel slates and oversight of military personnel position slotting.
  • Manages a variety of personnel management information systems and programs in support of the military population at geographically dispersed MSC field activities throughout CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Provides staff advice and consultation to all levels with the MSC and its field installations/activities on the following:
  • Proposed initiatives, new or revised policies and procedures that impact the command's military personnel program. Including talent management and options for movement and placement of military personnel within the Command.
  • Develops military personnel management policies and procedures and provides regularly recurring reports/analysis on the status of military personnel within the Command.
  • Responds to difficult issues involving complex projects/problems that require expert advice and/or authoritative policy interpretation to provide leaders with actionable courses of actions.
  • Represents the Command and G1 Military Personnel Management team at meetings, conferences and workshops on military personnel program.
  • Defends and justifies critical military personnel resources with Command leadership and within the Army Personnel Enterprise to include Human Resources Command.


Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

  • Temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 10% of the time required.
  • Two-year probationary period may be required if not already completed in accordance with 5 CFR criteria.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing support, direction, and management of military personnel programs and position management; AND 2) Planning, developing, and interpreting policies and procedures based programmatic guidance from the DoD, Department of Army, military personnel centers, and DEVCOM; AND 3) Serving as an organizational representative at meetings, conferences, and work groups consisting of participants at agency, major command, and organizational levels.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
