Job Summary: Reporting to the Chief Legal and Financial Officer, the Director is responsible for leading a team in the daily accounting and financial planning operations for the company, including departmental activities involving budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting.The Director works closely with the accounting and finance team, management and leadership, and other key stakeholders on relevant accounting and finance-based issues to achieve measurable results.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The Director is a broad-minded, strategically oriented professional who:Manages and develops the accounting and finance team by fostering an environment that promotes successful and positive interactionIn conjunction with the Senior Manager, ensures that the accounting and finance team deliver their work accurately and error-free in support of accounting and recording of the business transactions and activities of the company, including maintaining the business and accounting records of the company, preparation and review of journal entries reflecting business activities, maintenance of the general ledger, and other financial information pertaining to cash accounts, accounts receivables and payables, fixed assets, investment accounts, liabilities, periodic internal financial statements (balance sheets and profit & loss statements) and related recordsSupervises and oversees the accounts receivables of the company, including preparation of invoices, collections and collaborates directly with clients to expedite cash receipts and maintain cash flowsOversees the department in the maintaining of Books and RecordsParticipates in training, coaching, and development of accounting and finance team membersHas functional responsibility over all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.Works closely with C-Level Leadership by preparing reports and projections for presentation by the Chief Legal and Financial Officer to Executive Management and/or the Board of DirectorsParticipates as an active member of the Operations Committee and serves as a department liaison to the CommitteeWorks collaboratively with the Human Resources and Legal areas to ensure proper documentation related to the financial areas to conduct firm directivesAccountable for maintaining relationships with bank partners and key vendorsImplements and supports financial policies, standards, and processes to meet business / practice methodologiesOversees the preparation of Financial Statements and/or financial analysis and reports as requiredDevelops and supports accounting policies and procedures; incorporates changes in processes for the accounting department as neededPlans, organizes, and coordinates the year-end closing process with internal and external auditors by planning and budgeting expenditures, working with the Chief Legal and Financial Officer to ensure successful completion of the company's tax filings Including ensuring the timely filing of necessary federal, state, and international taxes, assist in conducting internal and external annual tax audits, working directly with auditors internationally, preparing and filing year-end tax returns, and determining estimated quarterly tax paymentsInterfaces with the Practice Areas on projects in connection with accounting and business concernsPerforms initial assessment of potential accounting and financial projectsPrepares analysis and financial reports as needed for the ESOP and Retirement PlansWorks with Chief Legal and Financial Officer to prepare, review, and finalize accounting and financial reports, proposals, and agreementsEnsures the prompt completion of high-quality deliverables by conducting projects and team assessmentsConducts audits and investigations relevant to financial operationsPerforms risk management on projects, including documentation and reporting in accordance with the company's business requirements/standardsSuccessfully performs other projects as assignedRequired Education and Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related area of study required10+ years of related experienceLife sciences industry experience preferredPrevious relevant public and industry accounting supervisory experience requiredCPA is requiredMasters or Doctorate Degree(s) with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or other related financial concentration a plusRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong overall knowledge of all aspects of accounting including accounting regulations, practices and standards for A/P, A/R, Billing, Collections, Audits, and Project Budget Tracking functionsSkilled at budgeting and crafting budgeting proposalsStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office, accounting and financial software; experience with Professional Services Automation (PSA) preferredUnderstands the environment in which the company operates and uses technical, regulatory, analytical skills and experience to set priorities, make choices, and recommend options to minimize compliance risk for the companyAbility to work with substantial amounts of complex data and deadlinesSuccessfully develops and leverages working relationships throughout the company to facilitate teamwork and achieve goalsPossesses thorough understanding of key business processes and the role accounting and finance playsProven attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize a busy workloadExhibits superb organizational and analytical skills;
