Summary:

TheSenior Content Area and Assessment Specialistwill provide leadership to science item development teams throughout the entire item development process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide content-area expertise to assist NAEP and other NCES programs in the development of assessment items and scales. NAEP assesses progress in reading, writing, mathematics, science, U.S. history, civics, geography, economics, technology, engineering literacy, and the arts.
  • Provide content-area expertise to assist NCES in aligning each cognitive NAEP (or other NCES program) item developed by the Item Development contractor with its respective framework, with ensuring that all NAEP (or other NCES program) cognitive items are of the highest quality, with designing individual test booklets for piloting and operational assessments.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in the subject area.
  • Provide teacher preparation, curriculum design and development, test development, research, and/or professional development.
  • Provide content domain and hierarchy with current content-specific issues related to teaching, learning, and assessment and will apply expert content knowledge to test development.
  • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience using or contributing to the development, implementation, or analysis of data from the National Household Education Survey, Early Childhood Longitudinal Survey, or Education Supplement of the Current Population Survey
  • Successful completion of DoE background check and ability to obtain a public trust
  • The position requires a COVID vaccination or an approved accommodation/exemption for a disability/medical condition or religious belief

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have demonstrated expertise and leadership in the subject area. This may include, but not be limited to teacher preparation, curriculum design and development, test development, research, and/or professional development.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the content domain and hierarchy with current content-specific issues related to teaching, learning, and assessment and experience applying their expert content knowledge to test development.
  • Must have expertise in accommodating the needs of English language learners.
  • Working knowledge of the following: Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally.
  • Ability to respond to COR/Task Leader and customers' changing priorities with established deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a functional part of a core team with ED staff and its other contractors.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deliver quality products and services that meet and/or exceed customer needs/requirements.
  • Ability to travel for up to 25%.
  • Ability to occasionally work after hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
