This producer, who reports to the deputy director, social, off-platform curation, will take the lead in working with our politics staff to ensure real-time, visual social reporting is published with context and speed for The Post's on- and off-platform audiences.

This producer will optimize compelling political storytelling for Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, making The Post's journalism an essential daily habit for more of these platforms' billion-plus users. They will lead experimentation with video features across social surfaces, finding ways to showcase distinctive video, photography and graphics as well as The Post's vibrant personalities. Top candidates will have a clear point of view on the role video plays in growing a social account and have strong ideas for various video surfaces and formats. This person will be part of a team of four journalists The Post is hiring as we seek to better serve the next generation of Post readers and subscribers heading into the midterm elections.

Key responsibilities

· Work with politics editors to set strategy for publishing our reporting to all surfaces, with a focus on social platforms;

· Ensure video, audio and text content are cross-published from individual journalists' social accounts to The Post's main accounts and surfaces;

· Add graphics and additional footage to transform social assets into stand-alone storytelling

· Write captions and posts that will contextualize and create narrative around video assets to provide real-time information to audiences;

· Clip and publish wire video to social platforms;

· Work with reporters on more complex shoots for explainers and set-up pieces.

Skills and experience required

· At least two years of relevant journalism experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;

· Demonstrated experience editing and producing for at least one major social platform;

· An understanding of how to edit and present journalism in ways that respect the shifting tones of social platforms while ensuring the veracity and accuracy of the work;

· Editing and familiarity with Adobe products;

· A comprehensive grasp of the major storylines shaping political news across the country and on Capitol Hill;

· An ability to work quickly and under tight deadlines.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé, a cover letter outlining the experience they would bring to the position and three work samples (as PDFs) to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 07/15/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Deputy Director, Social, Off-Platform Curation Travis Lyles, Head of Curation and Platforms Coleen O'Lear and Next Generation Senior Editor Phoebe Connelly.
