Job Summary/Company: Our client, a regional transportation company, is searching for an Employee Relations Officer to join its team. This person will provide strategic and consultative support to clients of the Employee Relations team by conducting investigations of both routine and complex situations, addressing highly confidential matters, and providing guidance, counsel, and training on proactive measures to minimize repetitive concerns.

Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required for this position.

  • Conducts comprehensive investigations of varied workplace complaints and allegations; counsels employees and management regarding alleged acts of misconduct, workplace violence, poor performance, disclosure and disposition of arrests/convictions, etc.
  • Makes determinations regarding the validity of complaints and prepares reports with defensible outcomes.
  • Partners with employees and management to provide resolution, including developing and promoting effective training programs/modules (i.e., Civility In The Workplace, Conflict Resolution, etc.)
  • Works with management to ensure disciplinary and performance action plans are appropriately developed and communicated.
  • Reviews all disciplinary actions and written communications, to include suspensions, demotions, and terminations.
  • Partners with all HR offices, the Office of Labor (LABR), the Office of Equal Employee Opportunity (OEEO), the Office of General Counsel (COUN) and the Office of the Investigator General (OIG) administering appropriate investigative processes and recommending and coordinating disciplinary processes to ensure consistency and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Maintains metrics of Office of Employee Relations (ER) activity, to include investigations, consultations, and exit interviews and analyzes trends by department and Authority to proactively address potential issues/areas of concern.
  • Responds to complex inquiries regarding policies and procedures; develops and implements processes and best practices which effectively address company-wide business goals.

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other applicable field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources to include employee relations program management, HR counseling, and/or dispute resolution.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred but not required
  • Thorough knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge, of company infrastructure, functions and workforce to effectively execute assignments.
  • Advanced knowledge of current human resources practices, laws and regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state and local employment legislation. Knowledge of Title VI and Title VII laws and the ability to differentiate between Civil and non-Civil Rights related matters.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of employee relations, workplace violence prevention, conflict management and human resources management.
  • Extensive knowledge of investigative processes (interviewing, fact gathering, report preparation) to reach logical defensible conclusions.
