Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a video producer-editor for our breaking news team. This position plays a critical role in The Washington Post's 24-hour news coverage, working from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

The ideal candidate is an experienced video editor who welcomes the demands of breaking news and is an excellent collaborator across teams. The editor assists with - and often leads - our breaking news and live news events programming daily. Strong communication skills are a must, along with a keen eye for optimization, analytics and SEO best practices.

A breaking news video editor is expected to produce live events and generate original ideas that elevate the news of the day. This includes finding relevant clips, compiling sound bites and writing scripts to create videos that complement our text coverage and have the potential to build a large audience on-site and off-site on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. This editor also identifies and aggregates social videos that would be of interest to the Post audience - curating must-see videos from around the world on the big visual stories of the day.

This position requires at least three years' experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment, solid news judgment and the ability to multitask. Editing quickly in Adobe Premiere is also required.
