Nanofabrication ManagerGeorge Mason University's Office of Research and Innovation Initiatives invites applications for a full-time Nanofabrication Manager. The Nanofabrication Manager will have the opportunity to shape the development of Mason's newly built 2,350 square foot Nanofabrication Facility (NFF) comprised of a class 1000 clean room and class 100,000 characterization lab. The Nanofabrication Facility (NFF) is a core university facility managed by RII and is available to all members of the Mason research community and external partners for variety of applications including but not limited to life sciences, energy, aerospace, and defense. The Nanofabrication Facility is located on Mason's Science and Technology Campus (Manassas, VA). About the Position:Primary responsibilities include:Contribute to and Implement NFF Strategy to ensure growing benefit to the Mason community and to the Commonwealth;Manage administration of the Nanofabrication Facility including tool selection and installation, overseeing service contracts; coordinating with administrative personnel for needs including procurement, inventory, and facility access;Establish SOP for NFF tools and processes, and develop and implement NFF training for all users;Work with investigators to design and implement new projects using NFF tools;Support faculty in developing content and supporting classes and workshops that use the NFF;Oversee operation of NFF tools, trouble-shoot, and ensure basic maintenance of NFF tools;Develop and insure the implementation of policies and procedures for safe and efficient operations of the NFF;Manage the budgets and projects directly supporting NFF operations in coordination with NFF Advisory Committee;Coordinate with communications personnel to inform content for outreach materials and a new NFF website; andWork in partnership with tool vendors as well as colleagues in Mason's Environmental Health & Safety Office, Facilities, College of Engineering and Computing, College of Science, Office of Research, and other relevant university units.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in scientific, engineering, or related field or equivalent relevant experience;Significant (generally seven (7) years) technical experience working in a clean room facility/laboratory with experience across several pieces of equipment;Considerable (generally three (3) years) experience managing laboratory operations and/or personnel;Demonstrated effective collaborative and interpersonal skills;Effective verbal and written communication skills; andDemonstrated ability to solve complex problems, multi-task, and work with minimal supervision.Preferred Qualifications:Extensive (generally ten (10)+ years) experience managing clean room facility/laboratory;A terminal degree in a scientific, engineering, or related field (Ph.D. or similar);Experience in a large dispersed university or industrial environment; andExperience securing external funding for research projects or laboratories.
