Duties

• Serves as a Security Specialist within the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) as the lead authority for the review and declassification of all documents IAW Executive Order (EO) 12958 (Classified National Security Information).
• Provides the full range of assistance to the Chief of Information Security in the areas of planning, analysis, directing, executing, preparing statistical data, reports, and scheduling major projects concerning declassification activities.
• Formulates policy and procedures relative to the declassification operations.
• Coordinates activities with other organizations, Department of Defense (DoD), and Governmental classification authorities in order to resolve issues and governing shared information.
• Responds to information requests from government agencies and private organizations concerning the EO 12958 mission in written and oral form, often requiring detailed explanations of comments made regarding classification of detainee operations.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Two year trial period may be required.
• In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based upon a single-scope background investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for access to sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
• Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required approximately 30% or less of the time.
• Overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Must be able to obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
• This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months.

Specialized experience is defined as experience applying information security requirements to information disclosure decisions; AND ensuring classification guidelines are applied to the classification and declassification of information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-12).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
