Duties

  • Perform physical security inspections to ensure sensitive materials or resources are not compromised.
  • Conduct surveys/inspections to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Recommend security measures to eliminate/reduce vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Manage security key and lock program.
  • Maintain key and lock records.
  • Perform site visits or inspections to ensure key and lock custodians are operating in accordance with appropriate security procedures.
  • Develop security procedures and/or systems to protect information, personnel, and assets.
  • Advise on physical security program policies and procedures.
  • Assist with developing anti-terrorism plans.
  • Formulate budget for the organization?s security program.
  • Monitor/track obligations and expenditures.
  • Provide recommendations to management regarding budget adjustments.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing physical security systems and tools to protect information, personnel, equipment, and other assets; assessing and identifying vulnerabilities/threats; advising on physical security policies/procedures; and assisting with maintaining a budget, funding, or cost accounting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Safety and Security Management; National Security; Intelligence and Security Studies; Criminal Justice; Law Enforcement.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Additional information

  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13. This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) course within their first two years of employment. This is a condition of employment and failure to acquire or maintain SPeD certification may result in adverse action to include removal from this position.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
