Duties

  • You will serve as a principal optical engineer on several electro-optic projects.
  • You will plan and manage the activities relating to field testing of electro-optic (EO) systems and devices developed by the Infrared and Electro-optics Measurement and Simulation Section.
  • You will work in areas of research associated with infrared phenomenology including atmospheric transmission, spectroscopy, electro-optical characterization of laboratory and field hardware and digital signal processing.
  • You will perform signature and thermal analysis on a variety of infrared targets and backgrounds as required for signature prediction.
  • You will analyze deficiencies and make adjustments when problems occur or environmental conditions vary.
  • You will identify the pertinent data requirements, collect, compute, and analyze all data and present said data in order to achieve programmatic objectives.
  • You will observe and report instrument malfunction, deviations in detected data (and its cause), the performance of mathematical computations, and the reporting of the measurement results.
  • You will prepare and present briefings and papers to a variety of audiences, including sponsors, symposiums, national, and international organizations.

Qualifications

You will serve as a Physical Scientist within the Tactical Electronic Warfare Division, Code 575700 within the NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05/10) or pay band (NP-02) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Performing signature and thermal analysis on a variety of infrared targets and backgrounds; (2) Analyzing deficiencies and making adjustments when problems occur or environmental conditions vary; (3) Identifying the pertinent data requirements; collecting, computing, and analyzing all data and presenting said data in order to achieve programmatic objectives; (4) Observing and reporting instrument malfunction, deviations in detected data (and its cause), the performance of mathematical computations, and the reporting of the measurement results; and (5) Preparing and presenting briefings and papers to a variety of audiences, including sponsors, symposiums, national, and international organizations.

Education

Basic Education Requirements:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
