Human Resources is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining AARP enterprise-wide human resource strategies, initiatives, policies, procedures and related systems. This includes employee compensation and benefits, organization design and integration, talent acquisition, talent development and employee relations.

The Instructional Designer and Facilitator reports to the Director of Learning & Development and designs talent development programs and identifies critical workforce requirements (e.g., skills, competencies, and performance outcomes) necessary to achieve current and future business objectives. She/he also plans and implements educational curriculum tools, identifies topics and partners with internal and external experts to develop curriculum and education content. The Instructional Designer and Facilitator is responsible for diagnosing human performance issues and learning needs, identifying appropriate training-based and performance support solutions and developing learning frameworks to achieve the individual business unit's goals.


  • Design, develop, implement, evaluate, and sustain skill development programs (i.e., Mandatory Training, cohort-based programs, open workshops).
  • Provide consulting on talent development projects across AARP, including requests to develop/deploy new training activities, sustain ongoing programs, and enhancement requests, highlighting industry best practices and AARP standards. Additionally, consult on the annual assignment and sustainability planning for established Mandatory Training programs, perform detailed audience analysis, and administer assignments.
  • Manage project communication and event promotion to ensure learner engagement, enrollment, and satisfaction.
  • Address questions and issues identified by learners, facilitators, program owners, and other stakeholders; ensure inquiries received via shared mailboxes are addressed within one business day of receipt
  • Manage the measurement and reporting of all TD activities and accomplishments.
  • Manage the configuration, testing, and sustainability/maintenance of curricula, courses, classes, and other learning activities within the LMS, providing oversight and guidance to Talent Development Analyst, as appropriate
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities to engage, and educate learners on talent development programs and LMS features/functionality/procedures.


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Organizational Psychology, Organization Development, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Education Technology, Instructional Design, Education, Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or Learning Systems preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in learning and development, specifically, designing and developing enterprise leadership and management curriculum and workshops, including instructor-led (in-person and virtual) experiential and hands-on workshops.
  • Knowledge of training methodologies, adult learning requirements, needs assessment, and evaluation.
  • Extensive experience facilitating a variety of learning experiences in a workplace setting.
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
