As the Program Specialist, you will assist in developing, executing, and implementing new engagement programs that align with the organization's goals and objectives. You will also investigate, resolve complaints, and listen to grievances on behalf of members. You will work with staff, volunteers, members, chapters, and other cross-organization teams to achieve AARP's community engagement goals at the state and local levels.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with staff, volunteers, members, chapters, and other cross-functional teams to achieve organization's community engagement goals at the state and local levels.
  • Establishes a presence for the organization in targeted communities by engaging multicultural audiences, developing community partnerships, building volunteer capacity, and designing and executing engaging community programs and events.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements assigned projects in collaboration with internal and external team members.
  • Recruits, trains, develops, and deploys volunteers in accordance with organizational goals, aligning volunteers' interests with organizational priorities, supporting volunteer needs and designing opportunities to maximize volunteer engagement in pursuit of the organization's goals.
  • Provides administrative-level support to a business unit, including research, report writing, creating presentations, facilitating meetings, tracking budgets, organizing and maintaining electronic records, and preparing and processing various forms.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in project development, coordination, and implementation techniques or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well both written and orally.
  • Experience coordinating logistics for events and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, lead project teams, and collaborate to form effective internal and external partnerships across groups.
  • Interest in issues affecting the lives of people 50+, including housing, financial security, guardianship, caregiving, health care, safe driving, and more.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) is a plus.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
