Duties

  • Performing assignments and receives on-the-job training related to the field of quality assurance designed to complement the student's academic studies.
  • Assisting and providing support to professional engineers performing contract management and surveillance activities for government purchased systems, subassemblies, and components.
  • Learning and performing in fields which may include one or more of the following engineering specializations, general, electronics, mechanical or industrial engineering.
  • Performing specific and routine assignment designed primarily to acquaint the student with the range and scope of duties of the occupational field.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the Pathways Intern Program at GPO, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution/program (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges) on a full or half-time basis.
  • Applicants who graduate college at the conclusion of the Spring 2022 semester may only be considered if they are also accepted for enrollment for the Fall 2022 semester.
  • Be in good academic standing (overall GPA of 2.5 or higher)

  • Conversion: Interns may be non-competitively converted to a term, career-conditional or career appointment within 120 days following successful completion of all of their educational and work experience requirements in accordance with 5 CFR 362.204 .
Proof of 2022 Enrollment -
a. Current Students: A current transcript showing your schedule for the current and/or upcoming semester, GPA and number of semester hours is sufficient proof of enrollment.

b. Re-enrolled Students (a student re-entering school after taking time off): A letter from the registrar's office, on the university/college letterhead, showing you are currently enrolled for the upcoming semester will serve as proof of enrollment.

c. Transcripts - Applicants must submit an unofficial transcript or a list of college courses completed indicating course titles, credit hours, grades received and overall GPA. An official transcript from an accredited educational institution is required if you are selected for the position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may be used for this grade level.

PG-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post - high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in engineering.

PG-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree

PG-09: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

UNDER GRADUATE EDUCATION: For undergraduate level education, successfully completed education is credited based on its relationship to 120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours. For example, 30 semesters hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer.
