Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to:
  • Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains and troubleshoots electrical systems.
  • Tests new and existing electrical panels, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment; these include secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase and frequency requirements, to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, industrial multiphase systems, electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems, emergency warning systems, lighting protection systems, high intensity lighting systems with associated controls and related electrical equipment.
  • Inspects and repairs all lighting and power systems, electrical controls and energy management systems and all other electrical units throughout the facility, including minor repairs to elevators and related equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on all motors and motor controls; tests the emergency generating system monthly and performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs as prescribed.
  • Assists other trades with projects as needed.
  • Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls that support industrial operations, computer complexes or similar complex electrical loads.
  • Traces hard-to-locate effects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations.
  • Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical services.
  • Plans and layout the needed routing, placement and arrangement of systems, circuits, controls and equipment.
  • Determines installations and repairs including such considerations as the types, sizes, gauges and layout of conduit, wiring couplings, fittings, relays, controls and distribution panels and other electrical devices used in a variety of complete electrical systems and the best methods of installation and repair.
  • Completes installations, modifications and repairs, and balances loads and tests systems, circuits, equipment and controls with little or no supervision during the progression of or upon completion of work.
  • Completes electronic work orders in prescribed methods at completion of work performance.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. May be required to work periodic holidays and/or weekends.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/30/2022.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards .

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Preferred Experience: Having kitchen equipment repair background is preferred.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and where the parts of the systems worked on area in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent fr4equently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weight up to 20 pounds, however incumbent may occasionally lift and carry items that weight over 20 pounds.

Working Conditions: The incumbent normally works in conditions presented by the total medical center environment. The incumbent is required to work outside in all weather conditions to perform maintenance. Working conditions may be dirty, dusty, noisy, or confined. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Some of the work may be performed at a service bench and requires the use of magnification devices to relieve eye strain. The incumbent may be required to wear and/or utilize all safety equipment provided. Safety shoes must be worn during all duty times. Eyeglasses, goggles, hard-hats, respirators, gloves, gowns, protective clothing, hearing protection, will be worn when performing work involving known hazards or when care must be extended by the incumbent to prevent injury. Universal precautions are required for work in all patient care areas, or when working on any part of the sanitary sewer system.
