The Clerk’s Office of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia is comprised of over 100 professional staff providing administrative and operational support to more than 25 federal judges located across four geographical divisions. The District enjoys a friendly and talented staff, an interesting and evolving workload, and excellent agency relationships across the Executive and Judicial Branches of the U.S. Government.


This position is organized in the Administrative section of the U.S. District Court Clerk’s Office, with responsibilities focused on building maintenance and space and facilities projects in the Alexandria and Richmond divisions. The incumbent performs activities which include oversight of regular maintenance and recurring projects, coordinating with the General Services Administration (GSA), and advising senior managers and judges on various space and facilities matters. Additional duties include the management of furnishings, equipment, and services (including automation hardware and software) for the Clerk’s Office and judges’ chambers. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of the guidelines, policies, procedures, and typical internal controls related to space and facilities and act as a resource to local staff on policy compliance matters. Travel between the Alexandria and Richmond divisions is necessary to identify needs, monitor projects, and participate in meetings. Situational telework may be available per policy at the discretion of the Court.


• Monitor, coordinate, and react to day-to-day facilities management issues, which may involve structures, building systems, technology, grounds, and security.

• Identify, recommend, and track needed construction, tenant alterations, cyclical maintenance, furnishings, and space and facilities services.

• Prepare specifications, solicitations, and requests for qualifications/proposals; research products and life-safety system equipment; prepare product/equipment specifications.

• Obtain and review competitive bids, quotes, and proposals from vendors and contractors; discuss evaluations and review with requesters and subject matter experts.

• Prepare and submit Reimbursable Work Authorizations (RWA) for GSA-managed construction and renovation projects. Verify RWA charges and authorize payment.

• Assess, prioritize, document, and respond to project issues. Participate in project meetings as a representative of or advisor to senior Court managers. Ensure construction compliance. Prepare progress reports and  update appropriate judicial officers.
