Immigration SpecialistThe George Mason International Admissions Office invites applications for an Immigration Specialist position within the office. George Mason University has an institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Safeguarding confidential information, balancing multiple priorities, and a strong orientation to service are daily responsibilities;Handle administrative functions underpinning the regulatory service mission of the office;Serve as an F-1 Designated School Official;Collect and analyze all required financial documents for I-20 issuance;Process document requests and matriculations;Respond to inquiries by phone and e-mail;Coordinate with students, faculty and administrators on regulatory matters; andCompletes other tasks as assigned.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required;Must have excellent work habits, including reliability, timeliness, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure;Demonstrated oral/written communication skills with particular emphasis on explaining complex concepts to individuals who have limited proficiency in English;Experience working effectively in a fast-paced environment;Skills to research and interpret federal regulations and use the regulations to make decisions related to student status;Demonstrated attention to detail, including the ability to review documents and other work and make corrections;Ability to serve students/clients effectively;Ability to provide support to individuals who may be angry or upset;Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software;Ability to work a non-standard schedule and/or additional hours occasionally when the workload is high; andFederal law requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residence in order to serve as a Designated School Official and/or an Alternate Responsible Officer.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of F-1 and J-1 nonimmigrant regulations;Experience in the culture-crossing process and/or an understanding of the dynamics of cultural adjustment;Knowledge of MS Teams and Zoom collaboration tools;Several years of administrative or professional experience;Client/customer service, regulatory compliance and/or higher education experience;Experience working in an International Student Office and/or as a Designated School Official; andBilingual.
