Technology SpecialistGeorge Mason University, School of Business, invites applications for the position of Technology Specialist. This position ensures the timely availability of electronic resources to faculty, staff, and students of the School of Business and associated programs. This position is based at the Fairfax campus, with local travel to Main Street and Arlington locations. This is a full-time classified staff position with full benefits.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:The Technology Specialist will be responsible for the following:Workstation SetupRegularly set up laptops and workstations to ensure the operations run efficiently. Set up includes on-campus and remote duties and may involve arranging for shipping or drop-off to remote users.Recovery PlanDevelop and maintain a logical, reliable and tested recovery plan for electronic resources in conjunction with SBUS IT. This function is of highest security importance. Periodically test to ensure a specific plan is followed and restores intended functionality. Educate users on importance of shared and cloud drive usage when remote, and assists with access to these tools. Provide continual support for videoconferencing events and remote-learning classrooms that service external customers.InventoryDevelops and maintains documentation on the inventory, activity, and configuration of hardware and software electronic resources. Prepares, modifies, tests or makes updates to the documentation for administering resources within the School. In the hybrid environment, this documentation must be reviewed and updated regularly. Takes particular care in maintaining off-campus resource documentation and conveying this documentation to SBUS IT.Moving and Reconfiguring EquipmentSupports the ad-hoc delivery, support or training of School related technology services, functions and/or products. The movement, installation and configuration of workstations, printers, scanner, self-contained power devices storage units, etc. may be required in order to accomplish related functions of this job. Remote setup, support, and training required along with these functions when on campus. Frequent departmental moves in a fast-growing environment; ensure users in transition are able to work using alternative means.Resolves Technical IssuesDevelops, maintains, and researches the resolution of technical problems for situations experienced by users of electronic resources within the School. Responsible for working with SBUS IT for supply, inventory and developing documentation. In consultation with SBUS IT, determine when on-campus support or maintenance work is required and make arrangements with users as needed. Some local travel required for equipment repairs that cannot be performed in house. Ensures that electronic information resources used within the School adhere to University policies for security and operate in optimal configured for performing their intended function. Participation in frequent projects required by changes in University policy and directed by George Mason's central Information Technology Services.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education degree granting institution; or equivalent combination of experience and education;Experience with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, Mac, Linux, Apache, and Microsoft Teams, Zoom, InTune, cloud applications, Bomgar, and Networking;Ability to work with multiple constituents;Ability to work independently and to complete multiple tasks within tight deadlines;Demonstrated effective interpersonal and organizational skills; andAbility to travel to our Main Street and Arlington locations.Preferred Qualifications:Recent certifications from industry recognized issuing entities that indicate an understanding, application and/or experience with administering information systems in a medium to large environment; andSecurity-related certificates.
