Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a nimble and resourceful reporter to join its America desk with a mission of covering breaking news and producing deeply reported enterprise stories on the West Coast.
This California-based correspondent will help helm our coverage of the biggest news events in the western United States and will write revelatory stories about life in this dynamic region of the country.
The ideal candidate has a quick metabolism and a strong track record of writing with authority, accuracy and precision on tight deadlines about a range of subjects. This reporter will be called upon to help cover major breaking news, such as weather-related disasters or mass-casualty events, as well as stories touching on a variety of topics, from politics and crime to race and the environment. We are seeking a reporter with a keen eye for distinctive stories that will resonate with a national audience.
We expect this reporter to collaborate with other domestic correspondents based in California and other states. We are also seeking someone who is enthusiastic about working cooperatively with colleagues who specialize in visual journalism, graphics and data reporting to elevate their coverage.
Interested candidates should upload a résumé with links to their work and a cover letter outlining the experience they would bring to the position to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 07/05/2022 will be prioritized. Your cover letter should be addressed to National Editor Matea Gold, Deputy National Editor Philip Rucker, America Editor Cathleen Decker, Deputy America Editors Amanda Erickson and Christine Armario, and Managing Editors Steven Ginsberg and Krissah Thompson.
The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
Ever wondered if what you are doing will Impact Tomorrow? At The Washington Post, every employee shapes the way we deliver the news. Find the career that's right for you
