Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a senior correspondent to join the Climate & Environment Department.

This position, which is part of a significant expansion of climate coverage at The Post, will lead our reporting on how the U.S. government is responding to climate change and other environmental challenges. From inside the White House and federal agencies to Congress and global capitals, this reporter will pursue stories about how the world's most powerful policymakers are making decisions that affect the planet's present and future.

This reporter will be expected to break news routinely, produce authoritative stories about how top officials are constructing policy, and help our readers understand the trajectory of the world's response to climate change. This person should be able to write about policy details and political fights in vivid ways - exploring the debates that shape them as well as the impacts on people across the U.S. and the world. And they should be comfortable pursuing longer-term accountability stories while also turning around competitive pieces on a tight deadline.

The best candidates will have demonstrated success in covering politics and policy and their impact on society. Familiarity with climate and environmental subjects is required, though it is not necessary that candidates have covered the beat before. Close collaboration with other members of the Climate & Environment Department as well as colleagues in Politics and Business will be essential.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
