The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair special-purpose refrigeration and air conditioning components and systems and boiler heating components and systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment, such as oiling fan bearings and ensuring proper oil level in air compressor crankcases.
  • Inspect equipment to detect worn or damaged parts, test for refrigerant leaks and proper functioning of controls, and proper operation of heating and air conditioning;
  • Observe and test for proper operation of refrigerant cycle for cooling, and diagnose, test and locate malfunctions on all types of heating and complex air conditioning equipment.
  • Fabricate, install and maintain complex, specialized sheet metal and ducts, which involves dismantling the equipment and cleaning all component parts, examining for wear and damage, replacing parts and repairing deficiencies of compressors, condensers, evaporators, seals expansion or pressure valves, capillary tubes and pressure or thermostatic controls, etc.

The work requires extensive walking and bending, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in overhead or in tight areas, and frequently stooping, stretching, kneeling and reaching. Work requires visits to construction sites, machine rooms, and grounds.
