Our faculty are involved in graduate programs such as the M.S. in Biology, the M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy, the Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy, and the Ph.D. in Biosciences. We offer a broad curriculum with concentrations available in: A) Biopsychology; B) Biotechnology and Molecular Biology; C) Environmental and Conservation Biology; D) Microbiology; and E) Bioinformatics. The bachelor's degree programs in Biology provide a sound liberal arts education with substantial experience in quantitative and analytical thought, along with preparation for a related profession.Responsibilities: The primary purpose of the Laboratory Technician position is to prepare lab materials for all introductory biology courses (BIOL 102, 105 and 213) in the Department of Biology in a timely manner to ensure the success of student exercises. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:Working with Lab coordinators in the preparation of labs and maintaining cultures;Prior to each laboratory section, manage and organize lab materials, prepare working reagents, and perform demonstration experiments;Prepare supply orders, as needed, and obtain best available pricing from vendors;Work with the department Chair to develop budgets for both courses;Training and supervising student lab workers,Maintaining equipment, and interfacing with Mason's Environmental Health and Safety Office; andThe incumbent is responsible for adjusting to changing conditions, ensuring that the laboratories meet all required safety standards, optimizing protocols as required/requested, and may be required to work occasionally outside of regular business hours.Required Qualifications:A Bachelor of Science degree in a biologically related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience with introductory lab preparation;Good interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to learn new laboratory techniques; andDriver license and reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications:Experience prepping in a University lab class setting; andA masters degree in a biologically related field.
