The University of Maryland, College of Education is seeking a director for the newly established EdTerps Learning Academy (ELA). The mission of the ELA is to provide a range of professional development opportunities to adult learners who seek to learn about current evidence-based research and practice related to teaching diverse learners, human development, policy analysis, leadership development, and counseling. ELA offerings will lead to UMD continuing education units (CEUs), certificates of attendance, micro credentials, and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)-approved certificates and degrees.

The Director of the EdTerps Learning Academy will be responsible for establishing the strategic vision for ELA in partnership with the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation and Partnerships in the College of Education (CoE). This position will require working on campus/in-person, with options for teleworking.  Major responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and manage the ELA’s program offerings across all three CoE departments. Collaborate with CoE faculty and staff as well as coordinate with the Office of Extended Studies (OES) on campus to generate and implement ELA’s programming. Steward partnerships with local schools and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and serve as the point person for seeking and submitting grants, contracts or projects that require instructional, professional development, or teacher-preparation partnerships with local and state districts and/or agencies. Oversee the ELA’s financial planning with the Program Finance Manager.

The Director will report to the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Partnerships in the College of Education and will supervise and manage ELA’s full and part time members of the team, including: an Assistant Director for Marketing, a Program Manager, an Instructional Designer, and a Program Finance Manager. The Salary range for the ELA Director is $120,000 - 125,000 per year for a 12-month position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or a research-practice social sciences discipline (e.g., human development, counseling). 
  • Proven personnel supervision and team management. Planning and delivering events, conferences, and professional development.
  • 3-5 years of program management experience. 3-5 years as an K-12 educator or leader in a school district.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and work collaboratively within and across units. internal and external to the organization. Demonstrated ability to strategically plan.
