The Senior Accountant, SEC Reporting and Accounting Policy is a key individual contributor to the success of the Finance Department, responsible for consolidated financial reporting for Appian. The primary purpose of the position will be to take a lead role with respect to the financial aspects of quarterly and annual financial reporting filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This position reports to the Director, SEC Reporting and Accounting Policy.

To be successful in this role, you need:
  • To be able to assist in the preparation, review, and timely filing of required reports with the SEC, including Forms 8-K, 10- Q, and 10-K as well as the Annual Report Proxy Statement, and 401(k) financial statements
  • To collaborate with personnel in various corporate departments and other internal/external personnel to coordinate, review, and develop financial data for public release or filing with the SEC
  • To be able to support and coordinate the identification and gathering of financial and disclosure data necessary to fulfill the reporting and filing requirements of the SEC
  • Skills to lead the process for complying with XBRL reporting requirements, including assessing the appropriateness of XBRL
  • The ability to develop the quarterly and annual reporting calendars used to manage the external reporting process
  • To assist with maintaining and documenting compliance with internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with SOX 404 standards
  • To be well-versed in U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and specific requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
  • To possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 3+ years of combined public company financial reporting and audit experience or 3+ years of experience within the Controllership organization of a public company
  • Active Certified Public Accountant
