J ob Description:

The Bilingual Translator is responsible for providing Dari and English written translation services in ACPS, and to support interpretation. S/he will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including representatives from central office departments, offices and schools to enhance communication with parents and the public. The Bilingual Translator will report to the Executive Director of the Office of English Learner Services under the supervision of the Language Access Manager. S/he will have a high level of knowledge about the ?eld of translation, and experience working speci?cally with educational terminology. The Bilingual Translator will maintain multiple translation tasks simultaneously and work with a variety and diverse groups of people. S/he will have oral, aural, and written ?uency in English and Dari.


Education: Bachelor's degree

  • Knowledge and understanding of the school division's culturally and linguistically diverse community
  • Superior level of oral, aural and written ?uency in English and Dari, and exceptional grammar skills.
  • Well-developed skills in spelling, punctuation, syntax, grammar, and pronunciation of academic English and Dari
  • Ability to translate and interpret to and from English and Dari without altering the original meaning and intent, and in a variety of educational settings. Ability to translate and interpret to and from English into Farsi will be highly valued.
  • Recent experience using education-speci?c terminology and acronyms, including those in speci?c ?elds such as English Learner and Special Education
  • Pro?ciency in using state-of-the-art technology to perform and maintain translations, including Microsoft Office tools
  • Familiarity with laws, policies, programs and operating procedures found in K-12 educational systems
  • Ability to verify translated division documents, forms, letters, and maintain con?dentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Ability to work e?ciently in emergency or time-sensitive situations
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, including with external translation providers when required
  • Ability to establish and maintain project deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders Knowledge of the latest research and practices in the ?eld of translation and interpretation
  • Travel to and from ACPS schools as required
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional translation services to ACPS, and serve as a division-wide resource and support for English and Dari translation and interpretation
  • Use technology appropriately, in English and Dari, to format, translate, save and retrieve work
  • Assist in the selection and utilization of software and hardware required to provide professional translation services
  • Maintain records of translations
  • Interpret spoken language with appropriate use of language, conduct interpretation by transmitting messages over the phone, videoconference or in person, and provide consecutive or simultaneous interpretation as required
  • Maintain a system of review, edit and revision of one's own work, and assume responsibility for high quality work
  • Ensure that translation and interpretation services in Dari are of the highest quality, and equivalent to the communication provided in English
  • Respond to editing suggestions of others and edit work of other translators as needed Work collaboratively with the ACPS Language Access Manager, the Communications department and with other ACPS departments, offices and schools
  • Maintain key documents on the ACPS website and Web pages related to parent communications in languages other than English, to provide stakeholders with updated information
  • Research, attend relevant workshops and stay current in the ?eld of translation with regard to national trends, guiding principles and best practices for accuracy, standardization and quality control
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
