This position is located in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement, Division of Practice Improvement.

  • AHRQ Headquarters located in Rockville, MD. This position may be eligible for telework based on Agency's telework policy and supervisor approval.
  • 100% remote. The location is negotiable after selection. Selected individuals may work anywhere in the United States. Work sites outside of the continental U.S. are prohibited.
  • Your salary will be based upon the locality pay of your work site after selection.

    As a Physician, you will serve as an advisor on a variety of projects in the Division of Practice Improvement (DPI) that may include studies and interventions addressing primary care, patient centered care, behavioral health, prevention and management of chronic disease, clinical-community linkages, health equity and quality improvement.

    Your major duties and responsibilities may include:
    • Providing clinical experience and professional medical expertise with a particular focus on the dissemination and implementation of interventions to improve the delivery of health care.
    • Providing leadership and developing partnerships with stakeholders to identify and prioritize gaps in evidence related to delivery of health services.
    • Developing appropriate research strategies and methodologies, and conceptualizing initiatives, and implementing projects to address these priorities.
    • Synthesizing and disseminating the findings of the Agency's work in the areas of intramural research projects, extramural grants and contracts to multiple national stakeholders through writing and presentations, and providing strategic guidance.

    OPM Individual Occupational Requirements for the 0602 series:

    Degree: You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association , Association of American Medical Colleges , Liaison Committee on Medical Education , Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

    Degree from Foreign Medical School: You must provide a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school and must provide documentation that the applicant's education and medical knowledge is equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.

    Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

    For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.

    An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, or pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

    A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

    A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GS-14 LEVEL: You must have an additional 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.     Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
