Senior Researcher
Senior Researcher (NCES) for American Institutes for Research to work at our Arlington, VA loc. May telecommute as necessary. Conduct all aspects of survey research analysis, incl: to analyze, interpret, & report complex quantitative data using appropriate statistical/psychometric methods; and to conduct & lead studies using designs such as randomized control trials, regression discontinuity, & quasi-experimental designs with tight controls. Develop conceptual frameworks/logic models to guide project work. Design data collection frameworks &/or crosswalks. Lead design of policy, research studies, & evaluations. Evaluate stat methods & procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, efficiency, etc. Manage/lead research tasks &/or med-to-large projects &/or high-profile/risk projects (timelines, budgets, risk, scope, team, conflict management, etc). Monitor, coord, & provide direction to project staff; advise on research methods & reporting. Develop & manage daily relationships with clients to plan, implement, & present results of study. Provide analytical/stat assistance to clients. Serve as a lead expert. Manage proposals & identify new business opps. Lead teams in writing proposals &/or grants & evaluation reports, incl recommendations. Manage & mentor Jr research analysts. Prepare & review data tables, figures & docs. Write report sections, tech docs, & other deliverables. Do written & oral presentation on research questions, findings, & potential impacts. Little domestic travel may be involved. May undergo background checks. Must have Masters in Education, Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Psychology, Sociology, or related field, 5 yrs relevant exp in education statistics, and required skills (3 yrs); PhD in Edu, Econ, Stats, Public Policy, Psych, Soc, or rel, 2 yrs relevant exp in education statistics, and required skills (2 yrs); or any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable. Requires skills in: sampling; statistics; the design of surveys including sample surveys; analysis of data collected through complex sample designs; sampling theory incl sampling, weighting, and estimation; and one of the following software programs: SAS, STATA, R, or Winsteps.
