Insider Threat and Digital Investigations Analyst (Remote-Eligible)

Capital One is looking for an Insider Threat and Digital Investigations Analyst to join the Cyber Insider Threat team. The User Behavior Analytics role is responsible for the detection and investigation of anomalous user activities and indicators of potential insider threats. This position will be part of the Cyber Insider Threat and Technical Investigations program, responsible for utilizing a wide variety of security tools across multiple environments. The UBA role will perform analysis, investigation, monitoring and management of user and endpoint based insider threats. These tasks include but are not limited to: creating and maintaining investigation and incident tracking information; planning, coordinating and performing user behavior-based investigations; drafting and presenting detailed investigative reports and summaries; investigation analysis tasks including preservation and examination of all available information, and supporting evidence or artifacts collection related to incident or event.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work with alerting and monitoring technologies and other log sources available to the Cyber Operations and Intelligence Teams to refine investigation sequence and procedures
  • Track and document investigations from initial detection through final resolution including documenting requests and activities in a case management system.
  • Use technology, infrastructure and operational processes to enable a more effective user-based threat detection and investigation
  • Effectively and professionally secure handling and collection of digital evidence
  • Exercise sound technical, interpersonal and organizational judgment while evaluating and solving complex problems.
  • Engage with associates across the Capital One enterprise including the Cybersecurity Operations Center and Cyber Threat Intelligence teams as necessary
  • Exercise discretion and professionalism when conducting user-based investigations and inquiries
  • Develop, follow, and maintain 'playbooks' which provide a visual depiction of various operational UBA investigative workflows
  • Identify and enhance processes where automation has the potential to improve efficiency
  • Create, prepare, and defend technical escalation reports for presenting findings to leadership, corporate investigations and legal partners


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
  • At least 3 years of experience conducting internal or external investigations.
  • At least 3 years of experience producing investigative or technical reports.
  • At least 3 years of experience in information technology or cybersecurity related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience utilizing security related tooling, to include Security Information and Event Management applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in fields such as Computer Science, Information Systems, and Engineering or military experience
  • 2+ year of technical experience as Digital Forensic Investigator, Insider Threat, Security Operations Center or supporting an Incident Response Team
  • 2+ years of experience leading or conducting investigations
  • 1+ of experience in data science and machine learning, with an ability to automate data collection and processing activities
  • 1+ years of experience writing automated processes in Python, Bash, or Powershell
  • At least 1 of the following recognized industry certifications or equivalent: CFCE, CCE, GCIA, GCIH, Security+, CFCE, EnCE, CISSP or similar
