Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-15: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience implementing, developing or analyzing policy related to financial services or products, pertaining to banking or financial institutions, and analyzing and evaluating existing or proposed consumer protection laws and regulations related to the banking industry.
Applicants eligible for ICTAP (Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program) must achieve a score of 80 or higher in the online assessment to be determined "well qualified" for this position. For more information, click here

- Monitoring and analyzing emerging consumer protection risks presented by consumer financial products, services, and practices, identifying potential issues and impacts, and developing recommendations for potential policy actions. Analyzing and evaluating existing and proposed consumer protection laws, regulations, and guidance; and evaluating emerging technologies through which products and services are provided to bank customers.
- Monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating existing and proposed consumer compliance laws, regulations, and guidance and support leading the development of consumer compliance policy relating to FDIC examinations and enforcement activities.
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating consumer protection policy relating to FDIC supervision, examination, and enforcement activities.
- Serving as subject matter expert, dedicated resource, and point of contact regarding complex consumer financial products and services including, but not limited to, deposit accounts, overdraft protection, prepaid cards, mortgage origination and servicing, small dollar loans, flood insurance, mobile banking, and related legislative and regulatory consumer protections such as fair lending, fair housing, the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the Truth in Savings Act, and the Electronic Fund Transfer Act.
- Serving as a subject matter expert in financial consumer protection compliance. Responsible for supporting the development of, amending, and coordinating specialized consumer protection compliance regulations, examination, and enforcement policies and procedures for the Division.
- Leading and coordinating special projects involving in-depth research and analysis of issues related to consumer protection policy and the mission of the Division and the Corporation. These projects may be highly technical in nature, and focus on activities such as analyzing and evaluating information provided by financial industry stakeholders.
