WGL - Sales Engineer (Mechanical Design Engineer)
Job DescriptionWGL Sales EngineerReporting to the Manager of Sales, the Sales Engineer will bring new or incremental business to Washington Gas and develop new, review existing, and present market technical and non-technical solutions to drive revenue growth, particularly in complex commercial and multifamily segments. Initiates internal sales technical proposals, processes, and procedures on new or enhancement of Natural Gas technical proposals and in field construction projects. Manages high visibility new business jobs technical end-use solutions and WG infrastructure solutions and interacts with external audiences to interpret WG's department guidelines and procedures. Manages energy analyses, revenue modeling, and technical design efforts; recommends and communicates construction planning and contractor construction activities related to new business growth.You will:Design custom engineering end-user gas piping plans, equipment solutions, and services targeted toward assigned technical and non-technical client/customer accounts. Identifies strategic engineering technical and non-technical plans for assigned accounts.Collaborate with construction and the customer to employ cost-saving technical solutions and assist in negotiating final deals with clients/customers which includes collecting monies or administering "in-kind" services.Analyze and generates technical reports identifying appliance costs, energy usage, operating cost, and emissions, estimated cost studies for support of sales, sustainability, marketing, and rate cases.Participate in the resolution of code-related (IFGC, IMC, IBC, DOT, WSSC, Local Agencies, etc.) issues.Develop leads and sells natural gas across all market segments, particularly complex commercial and multifamily segments.Collaborate with energy efficiency, marketing, sales, engineering, regulatory, and other external and internal audiences to create and promote existing and emerging technology adoption in complex market segments.Create market-specific sales tools to drive market growth: engineering designs, technical white papers, energy analyses, and technical end-user solutions for external and internal audiences.Develop and delivers training programs detailing market attributes of specific gas-fired equipment and energy analysis to business unit sales staff for the sale of energy-related products and the support of sustainability and regulatory initiatives.Project manage meetings with other parties including sales, construction, HVAC contractors, etc. to meet with technical and non-technical clients to answer all questions related to sales decisions. Maintains account profiles on clients/customer accounts through corporate CRM tool.Identify specific technical and non-technical applications, products, and advanced equipment options to further client/customer relationships within complex commercial and multifamily segments.Research analysis, and reports on new technologies for natural gas such as Compressed Natural Gas refueling, fuel cells, Combined Heat & Power/Co-Generation, District Energy, Gas Turbines, Solar, and other commercial applications to key technical and non-technical clients/customers.Grow Washington Gas's market share in complex segments requiring technical engineering solutions by building relationships amongst technical and non-technical industry professionals and code-related representatives. Creates and implements engineering sales plans that cover penetration strategies and identify and monitor sales targets. Forecasts timeframe for product delivery to market, captures, records, and disseminates critical technical project information through diverse channels, including computer-based systems, technical and non-technical.You Have:Bachelor's Degree Engineering; Mechanical, Civil or Chemical engineering degree requiredMinimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience, including some or all of the following: CEM, CEA, or LEED "principles" for energy modeling or energy equipment technical specifying; Energy technologies (Gas Turbines, Solar, Co-Gen, Energy Efficient HVAC, etc.) and construction best practices including codes and standards; equipment and/or building-related; Developing and delivery of training modules; and/or policy, legislative, regulatory review; Prior sales engineering experience, products or services focus, is preferred or Completion of advanced sales training in the energy fieldDemonstrated working knowledge of energy, mechanical, and building codes applicable to energy equipment, its installation, and associated building designs.Related theoretical/engineering and technical experience in the advanced energy and HVAC equipment/building construction industries and outside sales.Knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software, energy modeling/equipment specifying software, and/or CRM systems.For Canadian hires: AltaGas hires personnel on the basis of job-related qualifications.
