Duties

Other major duties include but are not limited to:
  • Performs observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.
  • Completes approved templates and tools, such as the outpatient intake form, normal result notes, and follow up treatment protocols established by the agency.
  • Assists licensed personnel with crisis intervention; performs behavioral/mental health screens and, conducts interview
  • Manages aggressive or suicidal psychiatric patients, by providing one-to-one observations and applying prevention and management of disruptive behavior techniques (PMDB).
  • Utilizes communication techniques required to complete the questioners and templates approved for use in any outpatient clinical setting, including active listening, restating, and mirroring.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient while promoting a sense of worth and dignity under the supervision of the licensed personnel.
  • Delivers care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations.
  • prepares patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in person or virtual visits.
  • Conducts or assists with the training of personnel.
  • Collects a wide range of specimens and preparing them for transfer to processing.
  • Observes patient status and keeps licensed clinical staff informed of any change in condition.
  • Performs and records patient Vital Signs.
  • Documents actions, interventions and patient response in the patient's health record.
  • Follows national and local pharmacy and facility guidelines for disposal of medications.
Work Schedule: 8 or 12 hour tours to include alternate weekends and alternate holidays as scheduled.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/27/2022.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
  • Specialized Experience for GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information, taking vital signs, conducting 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKGs), conducting tests using Abbott i-STAT handheld blood analyzers, glucometer, etc.; setting up equipment and surgical instrumentation; assisting with cryotherapy, incision and drainage, ambulation, and Foley coude' catheter insertion; performing wound care such as bandaging, application of dressings and wound measurements; performing specimen collection and preparation; assisting with patient exams and screening; assisting with mental health care such as crisis intervention, behavioral/mental health screens, interviews, and observing behavioral patients; assisting with patient exams and screening; documenting actions, interventions and procedures in the medical record. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.) OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) year of graduate education (18 semester hours) directly related to this position. (Transcript(s) required). OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education to meet the qualification requirements. (Ex. 6 months of specialized experience and 9 hours of graduate education).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of bending, standing and walking. Generally, the work requires recurring physical exertion with assisting patients.
