Duties

  • Coordinates with high-level Program Managers and other officials in developing overall goals and objectives; effectively uses Team Leads and other technical leaders to direct and coordinate the Branch?s work.
  • Provide technical oversight and makes decision on employee work problems and develop performance plans.
  • Supports Army Geospatial Center data delivery and customer relations through continuous improvement of data, tools, services, and products.
  • Supports Land-Based Water resources (DoD DODD 4705.01) to develop and maintain an improved, expanded, and automated water resources intelligence database.
  • Plans, programs, coordinates, executes, and evaluates all Branch activities involving government civilian, contract, scientific, engineering, and related support personnel.
  • Assess budget shortages and determines appropriate resolutions participates and plans for mid-range staffing needs and identifies work to be contracted out.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Hydrologist:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Acceptable experience must have included performance of scientific functions related to the study of water resources, based on and requiring a professional knowledge of related sciences and the consistent application of basic scientific principles to the solution of theoretical and practical hydrologic problems. In the absence of water resource experience, professional scientific experience may be acceptable if such experience was preceded by appropriate education in hydrology or by professional hydrology experience.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience which includes recommending and shaping the development of programs in the integration of complex water resource and geospatial data, using geographic information systems. Establishing and maintaining external databases for the advancement of mission related water resources efforts. Assisting team members in solving production and/or training problems and executing the technical guidance. Providing input on the performance of employees to senior leaders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
