Duties

As a Small Arms Repairer (Title 32), WG-6610-06, you will perform the below duties:

(1) Performs organizational and limited direct support maintenance inspection and repair on a number of small arms such as: machine guns,
mortars, recoilless rifles, automatic pistols, mounts, elevating assemblies, etc. Inspects, locates mechanical malfunctions, disassembles weapons and
other components, determines type of work to be done, echelon of maintenance, parts to be replaced and adjustments necessary. Repairs, cleans, adjusts and lubricates as necessary. Replaces defective parts such as barrels, firing pins, springs, sights, bolts, safety devices and other parts/assemblies. Uses hand tools including screwdrivers, files, drills, hammers and punches to smooth burrs and scratches in metal parts, to replace or tighten loose rivets in receivers. Uses a variety of go, no-go gauges to check for proper assembly and operating tolerances, such as correct amount of headspace, etc. After reassembly, makes operational checks and adjustments, and test fires the weapon.

(2) Performs inspections of organizational maintenance level work necessary on small arms, tripods, mounts, elevating assemblies and components
supported by the activity, ranging from shop acceptance to identifying repairs and maintenance required, to final inspection. Performs periodic maintenance inspections to ensure that scheduled maintenance has been performed. May be required to serve as a member of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT) on small arms and related devices.

(3) Inspects small arms, mounts, elevating assemblies and other components prior to issue to units for use during Inactive Duty Training (IDT)
and Annual Training (AT) to ensure that they are operating properly. Instructs user personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment and
provides technical advice and assistance to unit personnel. Inspects the equipment prior to turn-in to the MATES to ensure that it is operational and
that required organizational maintenance has been performed by the user. Prepares a listing of discrepancies and/or shortages.

(4) As assigned, receives, stores, issues, and prepares for shipment Basic ISSUe Items (BII), Components of End Item (COEI) and Items Troop
Installed or Authorized/Additional Authorization List (ITIA/AAL) of major end items of equipment positioned at the MATES/UTES. Issues items to units for use during Annual Training (AT) and Inactive Duty Training (IDT). Receives items from units at the end of the training period and stores in warehouse according to warehouse locator system. Examines items being turned in to determine classification (serviceable condition, requires repair, etc); tags and routes to proper areas for processing depending on classification. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments received from Army depots.

(5) Performs other duties as assigned.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

• Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E7/SFC) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT-E7/SFC) regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.

Military Grades: Enlisted Member (E1/PVT - E7/SFC)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications and drawings, as well as experience which provided you with a working knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and proficiency in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have at least 9 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-05 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government? This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:

Experience or training in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gauges (tools include drills, files, saws, hammers, vises and precision gauges and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances)

Experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications and drawings to determine operation, assembly and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired and modified.

Experience inspecting small arms, mounts, elevating assemblies and other components prior to issue to units for use during Inactive Duty Training (IDT) and Annual Training (AT).

Experience examining items being turned in to determine classification (serviceable condition, requires repair, etc.); tags and routes to proper areas for processing depending on classification. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments received from Army depots.
