Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Business Analyst for the Finance Project Management Office. This team collaborates with business leads to determine solutions and complete skilled analysis methods combined with comprehensive understanding applicable of the business processes, systems, and industry requirements. You will have two major responsibilities. First, you will perform the analysis of digital subscription revenue payment trends, fees, and churn rates. You will manage the subscription revenue payment schedules for our strategic partners, including Amazon, Apple, and PayPal ensuring we collect the appropriate funds at the scheduled times. This is a responsibility of strategic importance to one of our most critical business units. Secondly, you'll work as a liaison with our engineering team and payment providers to analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes for payment brands and payment providers. This role reports to the Director, Finance Operations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Perform monthly analysis of subscription revenue payment trends
  • Manage audits of subscription payments
  • Analyze internal and external payment data
  • Identify areas for improvement to reduce churn tied to payment-related inefficiencies
  • Analyze and develop payment strategies for global payments
  • Drive resolution and communication with payment providers, engineering, and product teams
  • Monitor and communicate payment brand network changes and mandates
  • Review payment network forms from partners and payment providers for completeness and accuracy
  • Provide internal payment reports and access to payment portals to internal partners
  • Prepare required documentation, functional set up for new merchant accounts as needed
  • Develop test plans, coordinate testing efforts with business units, document testing results, develop implementation plans and work with business units as software changes are implemented in production systems
  • Evaluate the information gathered through workshops, business process documentation and task analysis
  • Communicate with internal teams and external clients to deliver functional requirements
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of the business unit and engineering teams to effectively allocate resources to meet objectives, schedules, and budgets at the highest level of quality and service
  • Understanding and documenting business requirements for specific business problems; translating business requirements into functional and non-functional specifications; and verifying that solutions meet those requirements-all through research, fact-finding and skilled analysis methods combined with a comprehensive understanding of applicable business processes, systems, and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with project team members to determine alternative solutions and estimates for data, processes, interfaces, controls, and outputs to fit within the schedule and budget.

Requirements include:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field (preferred)
  • Demonstrate experience with quantitative analysis and turning data into actionable recommendations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of application technical skills including the use of SQL, Microsoft Excel/Access, report writing software (preferred)
  • Detailed- oriented with the desire to take initiative and deliver results
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to effectively influence people cross-departmentally to accomplish business goals
