Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an enterprising and creative assignment editor to lead coverage of the video game industry through its dedicated vertical, Launcher .

Working closely with Launcher's writers, editors, designer and video producer, this editor will manage the team's day-to-day operations and shepherd Launcher's stories from conception to publication while looking for new opportunities to further grow its young audience. Duties will include assigning and editing stories, shaping Launcher's editorial calendar and thinking strategically on how to evolve and expand existing coverage of video game culture and the industry around it.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong news judgment, a firm grasp of the editorial process and the ability to collaborate and coordinate with multiple teams and departments across The Post's newsroom. Experience working with accountability and enterprise journalism is strongly preferred. Top candidates will also be capable of examining the power structures in the gaming world while recognizing the reason millions of people around the world embrace gaming - it's fun.

Knowledge of popular gaming-centric platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, Reddit and Discord is required. Familiarity with analytics and audience tools to help guide coverage and engage with readers and viewers is a plus.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., office.
