Job Description

The Washington Post Sports department is looking for a detail-oriented journalist to work part time on our team contributing to our high school sports coverage.

Duties will range from covering games and contributing features to putting together our Scoreboard page for the newspaper and hunting down results. When not at games, shifts in the office typically run a little past midnight, and occasionally coming into our downtown D.C. office will be a requirement. Expect to work two or three nights per week on a flexible schedule.

The ideal candidate would also be interested in picking up a high school sports beat, which would have them writing features, news updates and game stories, in addition to maintaining a social media presence, especially on game nights. Beat writers can expect regular weekly bylines as they develop sources in the community, break news and become an expert on the major stories and teams on their beat.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé with links to their work and a cover letter outlining the experience they would bring to the position to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 07/05/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Deputy Sports Editor Matthew Rennie and Multiplatform Editor Mark Selig.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
