Job Description

The MTSS Coordinator's focus within the Office of School Improvement is to work collaboratively with cross-departmental and, school-based leadership teams, and teachers to facilitate the implementation of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) at the district and school levels.

The MTSS Coordinator will ensure the effective implementation of the division's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) model and vision. The MTSS Coordinator will lead supporting and monitoring procedures across the division's tiered intervention model across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL) that includes assessment, instruction, progress monitoring, and evaluation of intervention programs to increase student achievement and reduce/eliminate persistent racial and educational disparities

The MTSS Coordinator position reports to the Executive Director of School Improvement

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree required.

Certificates & Licenses: To hold, or be eligible for, a Virginia teaching license with Admin & Supervision endorsement.

Experience: 3 years of experience as a teacher or instructional specialist in ACPS. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience related to the MTSS framework, positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), response to intervention (RTI), social-emotional and academic learning (SEAL), restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, and family engagement.

KNOWLEDGE is required to facilitate improvement efforts including but not limited to: knowledge of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) model, implementation of MTSS, and intervention strategies, action planning, and monitoring; knowledge of current educational research strands; knowledge of PreK-12 educational systems and issues related to equity, access, and opportunity; knowledge of strategic planning, goal setting, measurement, and continuous improvement processes; knowledge of assessment including criterion-referenced, norm-referenced, and performance-based assessments design, administration, and analysis; remain current in-state accreditation and federal accountability requirements for public schools.

SKILL is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including project management across simultaneous projects; design and delivery of professional learning for adults; exceptional interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills; Commitment to working with students from marginalized communities through an asset-based mindset and approach.

ABILITY is required to effectively transfer knowledge to others and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people; two-way communication; continue to learn and develop expertise through self-reflection, independent learning, and inquiry; effectively identify root causes and work systematically to implement viable solutions; work independently and as a member of a team. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintain confidentiality in the handling of protected student and staff/ data; applying continuous improvement principles and processes; demonstrating the ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in dynamic environments.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and monitor the district-wide MTSS implementation plan aligned to the division's vision for MTSS and ACPS Strategic Plan 2025.
  • Facilitate the MTSS Committee that includes representation from school sites and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead needs assessment activities with schools to examine Tier 1, 2, and 3 intervention protocols, problem-solving processes, data-based decision-making, progress monitoring, and communication and collaboration processes among Student Support Teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental instructional support and student services teams to implement district-wide universal screening for academics, social-emotional learning, and behavior.
  • Develop and facilitate professional learning and ongoing coaching for school leadership teams and teachers on the MTSS framework and research-based practices for tiered intervention.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the MTSS intervention management system and partner with school sites to ensure effective data collection, data analysis, and program evaluation and efficacy.
  • Facilitate high-quality professional learning for school-based specialists and teachers on intervention delivery, instructional design, and other MTSS processes.
  • Collaborate with ACPS departments to engage community organizations, government agencies, out-of-school programs, and families to ensure the availability of resources for school sites.
  • Share resources such as research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement and school climate.
  • Compile and report on data analytics pertaining to the effectiveness of interventions regularly basis to improve district and school systems.
  • Engage cross-functional and school leadership teams in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of student achievement data to monitor school-level performance and provide appropriate support services and interventions to address achievement issues and performance gaps.
  • Reinforces a culture and climate of continuous improvement and supportive interactions among cross-functional teams.
  • Submit written reports and oral presentations to staff to keep them informed of the work and impact of their respective team.

  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
