UX Designer (Prototype Engineer)

Our Machine Learning Experience Design team integrates design, engineering, and data science to create intelligent platforms, products and services that improve people's everyday lives.

As a UX Designer - Prototype Engineer on the MLXD team you will be part of an organization that integrates product, design and tech teams to power real-time intelligent experiences for Capital One, its customers and associates by seamlessly embedding responsible AI/ML anywhere. You'll be responsible for leading a highly impactful body of work for our Responsible AI & Machine Learning Platform within the Enterprise AI/ML organization.. We're looking for engineers who understand UX principles, have a penchant for prototyping and experimenting with design. You'll dive into hands-on delivery in collaboration with a group of talented, kind people whose skills span design, product, tech, data science, and more. Together, you are reinventing how we develop, deploy, and maintain machine learning models that help power our business.

You will collaborate with business analysts, product managers, developers and design teams on research activities, strategy sessions, ideation, design, and testing of new product concepts.   • An avid storyteller who can develop clear and persuasive stories about your work that you share with a wide range of audiences, including business partners and stakeholders. You're able to present research findings and concepts to your partners to help us get to world class solutions..
  • A detail oriented colleague who impress your teammates with the ability to pick out small nuances that no one else seems to notice. You're proud to be pixel perfect and you've thought through every permutation of your micro-animations, transitions, compositions, loading sequences and ease of use to make the development process smooth for your users.
  • Someone who embraces ambiguity making you flexible as you know projects will pivot as new information is gained and you welcome the change with ease.


What you'll bring:
  • Develop user-facing features, pattern frameworks, and new development processes.
  • Build modular layouts, reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Help set technical standards and best practices for the creative team.
  • An understanding of Lean UX and Agile methodologies to help collaboratively build with our tech and product partner teams


Basic Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience with UX/UI design.
  • At least 3 years of experience HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
  • At least 3 years experience CSS3
  • At least 3 years of experience in web design


Preferred Qualifications
  • Designing for cross-channel experiences.
  • Comfortable working with Product and Tech partners
  • Familiarity with architecting and developing software systems or platforms
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools, such as: Adobe Products, Sketch and/or Figma,
  • Familiarity with machine learning tools and languages such as Python, Kubernetes, Java and/or C/C++
  • Familiarity with working and contributing to and established design system
  • 3+ years of experience with information architecture
  • 3+ years of experience designing and implementing for user experience
