Research AssistantThe George Mason University Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine (CAPMM) in the College of Science invites enthusiastic candidates to apply to our Research Assistant position. CAPMM has a mission to a) create new technologies and make basic science discoveries in the field of disease pathogenesis, and b) apply these discoveries and technologies to create and implement strategies for disease prevention, early diagnosis, and individualized therapy. The primary emphasis of our disease research is cancer and infectious diseases. Our CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory bridges translational research and clinical diagnostic testing. In this capacity, the incumbent serves as the primary person to perform laboratory technical analyses with human and animal samples, performs quality control, performs troubleshooting for instruments/assays, including COVID-19 testing, maintains adequate reagent and supply inventory, autoclaves waste, recycles material, processes specimens, pick-ups packages/deliveries, communicates all issues with laboratory team and supervisors, ensures compliance with applicable CAP/CLIA accreditation regulations and all federal, state, and local laws, and abides by university and laboratory SOPs and policies.Required Qualifications:Knowledge of laboratory mathematics and statistics sufficient to establish quality controls, troubleshoot procedures and equipment, calculate and correlate test results, and set up and implement new procedures;Demonstrated experience in molecular biology and qRT-PCR;Ability to work in a regulated laboratory environment wearing personnel protective equipment for an 8 hour work day/shift;Ability to perform complex tests on biological specimens;Ability to accurately and precisely use manual pipettes for pipetting in/out of 384 well plates;Ability to analyze test results and making inferences based upon statistical data and contextual references;Transcript evaluation verifying equivalency to a U.S. baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university or equivalent experience; Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English;Ability to read and record numbers;Ability to use personal computers and Microsoft Word and Excel; andAbility to follow complex oral and written instructions.Preferred Qualifications: Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail;Effective interpersonal communication skills with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders; andAbility to effectively navigate complex situations.
