Department of Computer ScienceAdjunct FacultyThe George Mason University Department of Computer Science (CS), within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), invites interested applicants to join the department as part-time Adjunct Faculty starting in Fall 2022. The department has four master's degree programs-MS in Computer Science, MS in Information Security Assurance, MS in Information Systems, and MS in Software Engineering, and a PhD in Computer Science. These programs serve several hundred part-time and full-time students. The department offers more than 50 graduate courses each semester.Adjunct Faculty teach one or more courses on the following subjects (with current syllabi available at https://cs.gmu.edu/syllabi/):Artificial intelligence;Cryptography;Data mining and machine learning;Graphics and visual computing;Information and software security;Information systems;Networks;Programming languages;Software engineering;Systems;Theoretical computing; andUser experience design.Courses are offered on GMU's Fairfax campus and are typically offered in the evening to accommodate part-time students who hold full-time jobs. Courses may be offered in several formats: face-to-face, online, and hybrid.Responsibilities:Prepare and teach assigned courses at assigned class meetings, based on course catalog description and approved course outline;Prepare and objectively grade class assignments and exams within a timely manner, in accordance with course outcomes;Maintain accurate, transparent student records;Assist and foster student success through the maintenance of regularly scheduled office hours and timely responses to e-mail inquiries;Adhere to all administrative university policies such as the timely submission of completed midterm and final grades;Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current within assigned courses;Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; andOther duties as assigned by contract or by the Program Director.Required Qualifications:PhD or Master's degree with 18 graduate credits in a computing discipline;Relevant practitioner-related experience;Experience with a learning management system, preferably Blackboard; andExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Terminal degree in an IT-related discipline;Relevant professional experience;Teaching experience at the university-level; andWillingness and enthusiasm to participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and decision making of assigned courses with program directors.About the Department:The position will be housed in the Department of Computer Science. The department has 70 full-time faculty members. In addition to the MS and PhD programs described above, the department offers two undergraduate degrees, a BS in Computer Science (BS-CS) and a BS in Applied Computer Science (BS-ACS).
