Position Information
Arlington County's Department of Technology Services is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to support the County's operational and security elements of the County's Cloud platforms. In addition, this position will migrate applications to Cloud environments with Microsoft tools, AWS, Office 365, Exchange, Microsoft Windows, Azure Active Directory.

Specific duties include:
  • Defining, designing, implementing and operating components of the County's cloud computing architecture;
  • Utilizing Cloud-based solutions, including Iaas, PaaS, and SaaS using Windows/Linux server technologies and storage to Cloud environments;
  • Ensuring the consistency and maintainability of new and existing cloud infrastructure by maintaining and enforcing standards that the Chief Cloud Architect establishes for optimal performance in the County's systems;
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and resolving the highest level of escalated cloud technical issues, and leading processes for backup recovery;
  • Working with stakeholders to develop solutions and identify opportunities;
  • Collaborating with a tech team of application developers, engineers, and designers to deliver innovative cost-effective technology solutions using cloud services;
  • Collecting and defining technical requirements to enable business process and integrations;
  • Establishing an approximate level-of-effort and staffing requirements for complex cloud projects;
  • Leading the design of effective, efficient, scalable, and secure applications process within the County's Cloud software platform;
  • Ensuring solutions created adhere to the County's technical architecture standards;
  • Staying up-to-date on emerging technology trends and promoting an environment of learning; and
  • Monitoring performance and availability of production systems in the cloud to achieve optimal uptime.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in problem solving and working within a highly skilled team; and knowledge of redundant/HA architecture using hybrid cloud environment between the data centers.

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; and
  • Significant experience designing and developing cloud architecture solutions at the enterprise level to include migrating web-based and enterprise applications to the cloud environments, as well as experience in server administration, storage management and systems security.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Enterprise experience supporting 24X7 operations;
  • Experience with cloud migration projects;
  • Cloud certifications at the expert or professional level;
  • Hands-on experience working with business units to transform workflows;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and present information to all levels within an organization;
  • Experience with cloud costing calculators and budget forecasting; and
  • Experience providing support for Microsoft Office365 and all of its components.
