Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Job Summary:
Westat has an immediate opening for a research assistant who will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team for longitudinal studies related to health and aging.  The successful candidate will learn the operational protocol and procedures, data collection instruments, training requirements, and survey methodology for the study.  
The position is based at our office in Rockville, Maryland with a flexible telework arrangement.  

Job Responsibilities: 
•    Assist in developing data collection procedures, respondent materials, and data collection documents.
•    Assist in developing and writing training materials and curricula and data collection materials and manuals.
•    Assist in developing specifications for computer-assisted survey data collection instruments and systems.
•    Assist in testing and reviewing project systems and instruments. 
•    Assist in training and monitoring field staff data collection activities.
•    Provide administrative support for project as needed. 
•    Other relevant job duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
•    A Bachelor's degree in a social science or health related field. 
•    1 year of relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
•    Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
•    Strong written and oral communication skills.• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
•    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
•    Attention to detail, aptitude for working with computer systems, strong interest in social science research, and working well in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    A Master's degree in a scientific or interdisciplinary area related to survey methodology, sociology, psychology, public health, or related field.
•    Experience with one or more of the following; questionnaire design, survey design and operations, quantitative research methods,  technical writing ,or computer-assisted survey instruments.  
•    Experience working on longitudinal studies a plus.
•    Experience working in health and aging research a plus.
