Summary

The Database Administrator will support the Defense Stockpile Management Systems (DSMS) and will utilize Oracle and MS SQL to provide database administration directing and performing all activities related to maintaining all database environments and designing future implementations.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate effectiveness of database management technology and investigate system problems and inefficiencies.
  • Resolve questions concerning protocols and interfaces and resolve equipment and compatibility questions.
  • Develop systems security POA&M for database related issues.
  • Distribute databases among system elements with limited replication across sites.
  • Design for the exchange of data between databases, including metadata as well as plans for supporting database replication and synchronization.
  • Design for the migration of legacy data from the DSMS Network environment to the legacy system of record and validating the resultant databases.
  • Ensure all database changes and server software is tested and installed at the appropriate time.
  • Develop and maintain security procedures to guard against unauthorized intrusion into databases.
  • Ensure redundant switch-over/fail-over capability exists and is operational when the primary database, network connectivity, or local power is unavailable.
  • Provide a reliable system of database backup and recovery.
  • Develop and maintain DIAMONDS (and other applications) in accordance with current CMMI for Development level 3 standards.
  • Ensure all system documentation is complete, current, and associated with the current program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in a related field, like Computer Science, Data Processing, or Information Systems
  • 2+ years of direct DBA experience
  • Working with Oracle Enterprise Editions and MS SQL
  • Coordinating or managing database administration activities
  • Must be able to obtain at a minimum IAT II certification within 6 months of hire
  • Oracle Database Professional certification required
  • DoD final secret clearance is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Database administration skills and knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Database Editions.
  • Advanced degree of analytical ability.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of Oracle Data Guard Replication and Recovery Manager.
  • Experience with server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive knowledge of relational database concepts, Database Modeling, and Design and Database Creation and refresh.
  • Experience working with programming languages, like SQL, PL/SQL, Shell Scripts, and Batch Scripts.
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for critical database, application, networking, and system administration issues.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work efficiently under pressure and with a high degree of independence.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Database best practices, concepts, and technologies.
  • Ability to fully document technical specifications and related project or systems-level documentation.
  • Must be versatile, flexible, and proactive when resolving technical issues.
  • Ability to handle diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities with deadlines.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Oracle Real Application Clusters.
  • Exposure to other RDBMS systems, like MySQL and SQL*Server is a plus.
  • Experience with features, like Automatic Storage Management and Active Data Guard.
  • Some experience working with Oracle Golden Gate and cross-database/platform data replication.
  • General familiarity with Oracle Advanced Security concepts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
